The District Mission Statement for Caledonia School District reads “In pursuit of excellence, Caledonia Community Schools will empower and equip all persons to achieve their best by ensuring the highest quality systems for learning.‚” This emphasis is demonstrated through a low 19:1 teacher-student ratio and a focus on parental involvement. Administrators and staff have laid out a strategic plan for the district to guide the next three to five years. The key points of this strategic plan are: Educating and Preparing our Student Learners for the Future, Supporting and developing staff, utilizing the best technology, engaging our school community, evaluating our performance, sustaining our schools, Growing character ‚Äì all curriculum activities, securing our schools.

The district is made up of Duncan Lake Early Childhood Center, 4 elementary schools, 2 middle schools and 2 high schools. Enrollment for the 2007-08 school year totaled 4, 031 for the district.

Curriculum’s are based around the Michigan Curriculum Frameworks. Local influences also add to the substance of the curriculum. Teachers and administrators engage in regular checks and discussions to make sure the high standards are upheld.

For elementary education the emphasis is on shared goals and a common curriculum for each respective grade level. At the middle school level the curriculum is organized around the themes of “exploration‚” and “skills”. Here students will cover all of the normal core classes as well as engage in six-week sessions that cover an organized introduction to computer skills and several elective classes, including art, band, choir and Spanish.

In high school the students are exposed to specific educational and career planning. They have the opportunity to take elective courses in the arts, business and applied technology, as well as on-the-job educational opportunities. Advanced classes, on-line learning and dual enrollment for college credit is also available for those who are interested.

As of the census of 2000, there were 1,102 people, 430 households, and 304 families residing in the village. The population density was 816.3 per square mile (315.2/km²). There were 449 housing units at an average density of 332.6/sq mi (128.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.91% White, 0.27% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.54% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 0.36% from other races, and 0.73% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.

There were 430 households out of which 42.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.6% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.1% were non-families. 25.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the village the population was spread out with 31.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 34.1% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 10.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 97.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.7 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $50,724, and the median income for a family was $56,429. Males had a median income of $45,804 versus $33,750 for females. The per capita income for the village was $22,386. About 4.7% of families and 3.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 4.5% of those under age 18 and 5.5% of those age 65 or over.
