Agents, I’ve got some bad news for you. Your ideas are not unique. Your ideas have been thought of before – yes, even that one brilliant notion that woke you from a deep sleep at 3 o’ clock in the morning, your mind already spinning excitedly, heart pounding in your chest.
And no, your evening shower inventions are not exclusively yours either.

Are you ready for some good news now? Great! Here it is – the secret to success is not your knack for coming up with brilliant ideas and then devoting all of your time and energy concealing your plans and carving out your destiny for greatness in the privacy of your own office. No, the secret to true success is your ability to simply pack up those ideas and ship them out, fully formed or not.
That’s right. Just get it out there. Get that great idea out there in front of people who can help bring your thoughts and dreams to fruition. Don’t worry about the details yet. Don’t get picky about the little stuff, not yet. Just pack it up and ship it.
“Ship often,” says entrepreneur and best-selling author, Seth Godin. “Ship lousy stuff, but ship. Ship constantly!” Godin is one of my favorite authors, and in reading his works, I have come to fully embrace his philosophy of Shipping. The ideas I ship out sometimes soar and sometimes they flop! But what I’ve learned is that if you ship enough, often enough, you’ll outweigh the flops.
I am always amazed when I talk to other Realtors and brokers and see how so many believe they know something or are doing something SO special they cannot share it or talk about it. Well, I’ve got news for all those tight-lipped Realtors and brokers – unless you’re a true inventor with a whole new way of doing the business, your secret is not a secret. The ONLY thing that matters is are you able to ship that idea before someone else in your market does? Are you going to put in the long afternoons, late night and early mornings writing blogs, door knocking, sending out mailers, redefining Facebook ads or producing slick new videos or home tours? Do you have what it takes to make your idea work for you? This is your secret sauce!
Try it and see how far you can get, even just on the strings of an idea. Ship, people Ship! Get it out there! Let your ideas free in the world and see if they work. Track your cost and then do it again differently to see if there is a better return. Let your brilliance shine … and don’t forget to be transparent! You can only lose what you don’t do.
